Founded in 1649, Fiskars Corporation is one of the oldest companies and
brands in the world.
While the Fiskars headquarters is in Finland, the majority of the office,
craft, and garden products originate from their Wisconsin offices, with
whom TEAMS Design works.
With Fiskars we are able to facitate our in-depth understanding of ergonomics,
brand-wide styling and quality manufacture to create ideas that fit their
very strong brand image.
These 9" shop shears feature a flexible soft gel
in the handle that gives slightly when the user squeezes the handles tightly,
when cutting through tough materials.
This concept came from ideation, user research and many test prototypes. We
also refined the contours of the classic Fiskars ergonomic handles for increased
comfort.
This multifunctional scraper is one of a set of three,
each with a differently contoured handle according to whether they are predominantly
used in push, pull, or turning applications.
Like with the shears, the orange area is a softer material to compensate for
the additional pressure applied there by the finger or thumb.
Again, user research and many ergonomic mockups allowed us to reach a very
high-end result.
These shears were based upon an existing garden product,
but was refined in detail to improve function, ergonomics, and to align it
visually to the rest of the new DIY line.
The blades are made from Fiskars own Titanium Nitride, an extremely tough
blade material very suitable for workshop use.
The innovative format for this palm-grip scraper came from
the initial brainstorm sessions we hosted for Fiskars. We tested several formats
as rough ergonomic models before selecting this iconic shape.
This new format of scraper allows the hand to get very close to the work area,
and is excellent for spreading, where improved hand control is
necessary.
