Hamburg is lively, But..
Did you know that there are wonderful places in the city where you can step out and disconnect from the world? We’d like to take you on a short journey and show you our favorite lunch break oases in the Winterhude area, one of Hamburg’s most stylish and lovable neighborhoods.
Everyone knows about the Alster. But it’s truly the hidden alster canals that form a tight network across the east side of Hamburg that make up the best places – and they're usually only known to the locals. They were initially used as a waterway for the Barmbeker and Winterhuder industry – however they are still shaping the face of our unique district. The mouth of the canal closest to home – the Osterbek channel, is our first Winterhuder lunch oasis. It's hard to believe that you can just hang out and enjoy the nature and tranquility within the lively Mühlekamp area: the stairs behind the bridge lead to a busy landing pier for the Alster ferries. One can spend many sunny breaks with unobstructed views right on the water. Swans, canoeists, stand-up paddlers, and sailors, are just some of the many sights to watch, not to mention the beautiful Alster itself.
